Dark Whispers

When Beatrice Minda photographed the images for "Dark Whispers" between 2014 and 2017, Myanmar was on its way to a promising, democratic future. In January 2021, this development was radically ended by the military coup. In the meantime, the civil war-like circumstances in Myanmar have been pushed into the background by the following events of 2021/2022 in the media. One more reason to draw the focus back to this country with its turbulent and moving history through this exhibition.

As in her previous projects, Beatrice Minda - who lives and works in Berlin - again deals with buildings and their interiors against the background of historical events. Her images reflect the ambivalent aspects of the British colonial period. An eerie emptiness animates these spaces - a memento mori that recalls the many unspoken things in Burmese history.

Hartmann Books has published the book with the same title "Beatrice Minda - Dark Whispers", which we can also offer signed during the exhibition.
