The Italian photographer Francesco Neri (*1982), who lives in Faenza, has been photographing the farmers of his homeland, Emilia Romagna, since 2009. The portraits taken with a large-format camera are contact prints of colour and black-and-white negatives in 20×25 cm (8×10 inch) format. The faces, hands and bodies of the people portrayed bear witness to their physical work and life in a rural, agricultural environment, but also to the dignity of the people who come from families who have farmed the land for generations. The exhibition is accompanied by the publication "Farmers" by Hartmann Books. In 2018, Neri won the August Sander Prize of the Photographische Sammlung/ SK Stiftung Kultur, Cologne, with this work.
With the support of Fondation A Stichting, Brussels and Photographische Sammlung/ SK Stiftung Kultur, Cologne.
